Euro Truck doesn’t offer anything like that. However, it’s the adrenaline rush from playing a fast-paced racing game that keeps it from feeling monotonous. They force you to race, earn new cars, race again, and repeat over and over. Racing titles are similarly repetitive in their nature of play. You’re limited by the laws of the road and the traffic around you. The gameplay itself may be different, but it lacks the adrenaline or excitement you’d receive from a regular racing game. In the end, Euro Truck Simulator is a game that drives you along the road to boredom. This includes older systems that can’t run most modern games that require an enormous amount of ram and a high-end graphics card. Any computerĭue to the age of Truck Simulator, the game can be played on almost any computer. ![]() This isn’t necessarily bad as the game can be relaxing when played casually, but it falls off when being played often. Once you’ve purchased a new vehicle, the cycle begins again. The game is a cycle of accepting jobs, driving to complete them, earning money, and repeating until you can afford a new truck. The genre type is known for its repetitiveness, and ETS is no different. Repetitive gameplayĮuro Truck is a driving simulation game, which causes it to feel somewhat realistic even though it’s happening on your computer screen. Trucks are rendered clearly, and the environment is beautiful to watch as you drive past it. However, the graphics that you’ll see for each model are still of high quality. The game is dated, having been released in 2008. This causes the game to feel more realistic and immersive as you haul your cargo.Ĭars on the road beside you are also realistic and watching them from behind your windshield while monitoring your dashboard creates a unique level of gameplay immersion. Beyond that, you can treat each and every one to a range of upgrades, giving them extra ammo or damage, faster reload times or a range of cool elemental effects. Because of the sheer, stupid number of weapons available, simply deciding which to give a place on your quick-selection wheel can be a challenge. There’s also more to it than you might expect. Hold and release your Alt-attack button to drive forwards through the enemy, splattering blood and gore, then use your magical powers to freeze your foes in place or knock them off their feet. Watch as limbs divide from torsos and heads spin off into the distance. Rush in, slash away, strafe left and right to dodge incoming blows. Now, Wang can wield a shotgun, grenade launcher or SMG with the best of them, but what always distinguished Shadow Warrior was its obsession with melee combat. Wang begins with his trusty katana and a magnum, then goes on collecting weapons at a furious rate, giving you a ridiculous arsenal of guns, blades, monster claws, chainsaws and handheld artillery after just a few hours into the game. Still, this isn’t a game of narrative but a game of action. The plot kicks off when the daughter of a crime boss, undercover in a sinister corporation’s lab, becomes possessed. Ice Pick Lodge stuff in general belongs here I feel, I personally love The Void. So I suspect that’s one reason for the je ne sais quoi in the games we have cited here SH is great but it seems like there’s some daylight b/t games that simply make use of the eso/occult for plot devices, motifs, etc. I think it may be bc while they have the trappings you might expect, the games don’t evince a real commitment to, or any respect or credence for the esoteric/occult. I was thinking about why Silent Hill doesn’t qualify as esoteric/occult in my mind. Pathologic 2 doesn’t go into great depth on this but the mystical/medical systems the game provides I thought were extra effective in giving the player the option to “buy in” to the gnostic steppe knowledge backgrounding the game Seems like it could be rich vein given the game-like or at least participatory+interactive aspects of ritual (or say tarot for instance). It seems to me that there are games that try to express esoteric/occult/schizo themes like patho 2 and the void, and then there are games like this and the kanoguti games that are more like esoteric or occult objects in and of themselves Set to fully easy, patho 2 is very much like a walking sim/adventure game And FYI for the curious, yes the aggrieved reviewers are correct that the standard difficulty is absurd (of course that fact is a pivotal thematic conceit), so I would recommend playing as far as you can take on standard (at least into days 8 and 9 if you can manage) then adjusting the difficulty sliders as you need to get by. In fact, it’s not that “scary” of a game at all. Sure, patho 2 is a “survival horror ‘game’” but it’s intent and effects go far beyond stressful and frightening.
